I know a lot of people love their digital software to keep track, but I honestly prefer a bullet journal here. It can be carried around with you, customized to your liking (you put it all together) and it’s all in one book instead of across a few tools.

If you don’t know much about this fun tool, you may want to check out what is a bullet journal? It is an explanation for people who are new to the idea and want to learn more!

Bullet Journaling May Be For You If

Bullet journal, be creative hand written on a page in a journal along with some stars, hearts, arrows and a few other small doodles.

Many people can benefit from using a bullet journal, but I know they are not for everybody. We all have our own ideas and things that we prefer. This will go over some of the things that may indicate that it is for you!

You Use To-Do Lists

If you’re a fan of to-do lists and have one sitting at your desk or your kitchen counter, then a bullet journal may work very well for you. Think of it as a large, ongoing to-do list that also helps you keep track of appointments, grocery lists and the likes. And since it’s all in one journal, no more frantic searches for that little list that held everything you needed to do today. (That is unless you misplace your journal – but that will be a bit easier to find than a piece of scrap paper).

When I first started journaling, I started it as a way to get all those crazy sticky notes off my desk. It was a HUGE mess, trust me I had a ton of them! But now I use them to keep track of so much more then those cluttered sticky notes. I can actually see my desktop now, I almost forgot that it is a brown desk and not a multicolored (I used multicolored sticky notes) desk.

You Are Looking For An Analog System

Our overly-connected lives can be draining – it’s time to unplug and get out a pen! Whether you’re organizing your days or jotting down thoughts, going analog is the perfect way to engage with ideas in a mindful and meaningful manner. Plus, no batteries are required here so what do you have to lose? Give this system of paper & ink a shot…you won’t regret it!

Our electronic devices are great, but for me nothing beats bullet journaling when it comes to organizing thoughts. Even if you think your Google Calendar handles everything for you, I would like to encourage you to give this a try. There’s just something about writing things down by hand that helps us process them differently.

You can still add important things from your bullet journal to Google Calendar – I like to use it on my phone for reminders and alarms.

You’re Looking For a Creative Outlet

If you are looking for a creative outlet but you just don’t have the time to sit down and sketch, paint, or create, then bullet journaling may be a good fit for you. As you plan your day, you can let out your creative side as you doodle and decorate your daily pages. Of course this is completely optional.

I have to admit that the creative side is one of my favorite parts about using a bullet journal. It’s fun to decorate and layout pages the way you want! But no worries if you are not as creative in the beginning, there are many spreads you can find online.

You Feel Like You’re Keeping Track Of Too Much “Stuff” In Your Head

Are you constantly juggling a million tasks in your head and feeling overwhelmed? Don’t let the mental to-do list running through your head take up precious brain space! A bullet journal could help take some of the load off, allowing you to empty out that busy brain.

Writing them down allows you to forget about them and stop running that constant long list of stuff in your head that you need to remember. Stop worrying about forgetting something important; embracing a bullet journal means more time for other things.

With all those appointments, meetings and ideas written down instead of running around up there it will free up so much mental space – imagine what relaxation or creativity can fill that with!

Just think of what you can do with all that extra brain capacity and how much less stressed you’ll feel when you stop worrying about forgetting something.

You Need Something Mobile

A big advantage of the bullet journal is that it’s nothing more than a notebook and a pen. You don’t need electricity, wi-fi or anything more then paper and something to write with. You can sit down anytime, anywhere to plan, check on your progress through the day, or add a new line item. There’s no need to hunt down a power outlet and it works just fine in bright sunlight.

And it is nice sometimes to unplug and get some thinking done away from your computer or smartphone.

Even if you don’t count yourself in all or even most of these groups, I encourage you to give it a try. You may not think of yourself as a list or “pen and paper” type person, but may find that this is just what you needed to stay on top of everything that’s thrown at you on a daily basis. I think anybody can benefit from a bullet journal if it’s something that you can find joy in doing.

When I first started I didn’t have a lot of interest in it (hard to believe now.) But as I started to do it (I needed something to get those sticky notes off my desk), I really started to love it. But it’s also not for everybody so if you try it and don’t love it, no worries you don’t have to continue.
