Our pooch is a great dog and he is a very well behaved dog…in the house. Yup, that is right he is the best behaved dog we could ask for when he is inside. But get him outside and all bets are off!
I have tried various harnesses and various techniques that trainers share online and well, nope they were not cutting it. He pulls on the leash and jumps at people in a friendly (well he thinks) way. He doesn’t hurt people and he actually jumps on you rather gently, but most people do not like it and I don’t want him to be doing it on all our walks – or any walks for that matter! When a manufacture says no pull for their harness, I no longer believe them since we tried many. In this pic he is wearing a no pull harness that he almost had stretched out from what now? Yup, pulling.
We finally decided that enough is enough and the money we spent on harnesses and such, we could spend on training. Finally we broke down and signed him up for training at our local Petco. I am not affiliated with them in any way, just a customer. It is a 12 class training so we will share how well he is doing with it here for all to know.
Today was his first class and so far we are quite happy with it. I know that they are not all over the world, but if you have one close it is worth checking into. He has one other dog in his class, but might have a second which would be really cool. It helped us to learn more about how to talk to him as well.
Now I know that it has a lot to do with the trainer too, but so far it looks like it will be a success. He is learning and we are learning a bit too! We have homework with him so we will say goodnight, do our homework and let our tired pooch go to sleep 🙂
